19th Metro Park to Open in time for Summer Season
April 28, 2016
Just in time for the summer season, Metro Parks is opening its 19th park in Central Ohio. Join us on May 6, at 10 a.m. for the grand opening of the Scioto Grove Metro Park.
Whether you are a kayaker, fisher, runner, or dog walker; there is something for you at Scioto Grove Metro Park. The park features more than seven miles of trails, two picnic areas with shelters, a kids play area and several overlook decks. Scioto Grove is located in Grove City on a scenic bend of the Scioto River and is an ideal destination for people wanting to experience the outdoors without having to travel too far.
"This almost 700 acre park has miles of trails, fishing, picnicking, and all types of ways to explore the great outdoors, “ said Tim Moloney, Metro Park’s Executive Director. “Scioto Grove will also be home to the first of its kind Urban Backpacking Trail, providing Central Ohio a great opportunity to experience backpacking minutes from downtown.”
Thanks to a generous donation of 193 acres of land from the City of Grove City, funds from the State of Ohio Clean Ohio Program, and passage of a property tax levy by Franklin County voters, Metro Parks has developed this park for people of all ages and abilities to experience nature and enjoy quality time with family and friends.
Metro Parks invested over $3million on development of the 620-acre park. Additional support came from Jackson Township and outdoor retailer REI helped construct a backpack trail along the river for those just getting into the sport, as well as those seasoned backpackers who want a quick overnight without having to journey several hours.
Backpacking is free and reservations can be taken by calling 614.949.1078. Reservations begin on May 9th for the May 13th weekend. Backpacking will be open every other weekend through October 1.
