Join us at the Central Ohio Commuter Challenge Celebration
June 22, 2016
This month, Central Ohioans have reduced vehicular congestion and improved air quality throughout the region by choosing sustainable modes of transportation. We are excited to wrap up the month of June by celebrating the Central Ohio Commuter Challenge.
MORPC partnered with COTA, car2go, and CoGo to put on the Commuter Challenge, which lasts from June 1-30. Commuters were encouraged to vanpool, carpool, bus, walk, and bike to work and other destinations.
Participants signed up at MakeYourMilesMatter.com, and those who logged their commutes were entered into a daily drawing for a $20 gift card to places such as Target, North Market, Kroger, Jeni’s, Café Brioso, and World Market. Each day a participant logged their commute, they also received an entry into the grand prize drawing for a $500 Visa card, a $200 Visa card, or a free Chipotle entrée every week for a year.
Currently, more than 540 people have participated in the Central Ohio Commuter Challenge, causing Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) to be reduced by 46,164 miles. Participants have reduced the amount of tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions by 35,823 pounds.
Grand prize winners will be announced and final results of the challenge will be shared at the Commuter Challenge Celebration, to be held at noon on July 6 at the Columbus Commons. The event is free and open to the public. The first 100 attendees will receive one free scoop of Jeni’s Ice Cream.
Come out and celebrate the wrap up of the Central Ohio Commuter Challenge over your lunch hour on July 6!
