If Ohio is to meet the energy needs of the future, be it the expansion of wind and solar energy or the electrication of the transportation system, our network of electrical transmission facilities will need a substantial upgrade. Our speakers direct one of America’s largest transmission systems and will discuss the changes ahead (including installation of “smart grid” technology) and what they will mean for the future of our electricity supply.

Energy efficiency is the low-hanging fruit when it comes to reducing greenhouse gases and preparing America to meet the energy challenges of the future, and home weatherization provides a time-tested way to achieve substantial energy savings in an extremely economical fashion. Our speakers will highlight how government-funded weatherization programs provide multiple benefits – saving energy, creating jobs, and assisting low-income citizens – and discuss how these programs can be expanded to provide even greater returns.

Spend it Here: How Pumping Up the Local Food System Will Boost Our Economy
Less than one percent of the food Ohioans consume actually comes from Ohio; food on your table travels an average of 1,500 miles to get there. The current petroleum-dependent agricultural system is unsustainable in the long term. Our speakers will discuss efforts to expand the supply of locally-grown food and their implications for the quality of our food and the strength of Ohio’s economy.
