MORPC and Columbus 2020 have partnered to launch Competitive Advantage Projects with a goal to advance strategic infrastructure investments across Central Ohio. This initiative will develop and maintain a vetted list of regional infrastructure projects that benefit economic and community growth. The list will be a resource to ensure broader awareness of priority projects and to match projects with funding and partnership opportunities. Additionally, MORPC will support priority projects through technical assistance for MORPC member communities.
The initiative is driven by county based working groups that will solicit and evaluate potential infrastructure projects. MORPC will provide an advisory evaluation to help inform working group members of project alignment with regional goals for economic development, transportation, and sustainability. County working groups will make final determinations about the top priority projects for their communities.
Infrastructure project types that will be considered as part of Competitive Advantage Projects include: highways and roads; active transportation; transit; rail, air, and freight; water and sewer; fiber and smart technology; energy systems; and strategic infrastructure planning.
As of January 2017, MORPC staff is engaging representatives from a 13-county area to invite their participation. Once priority projects are identified for each county in the spring of 2017, the list will be used to inform updates to the region’s Comprehensive Development Strategy, and all projects will be mapped and summarized on MORPC’s website.
