Bicycle & Pedestrian Planning

MORPC, as the metropolitan planning organization for the central Ohio area, develops transportation plans for bicycle and pedestrian facilities. (The MORPC planning area includes Delaware and Franklin counties, Bloom and Violet townships in Fairfield County, and Etna township and Pataskala in Licking County.) The most recent MORPC plan, the 2012 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) includes bicycle and pedestrian planning. In addition to planning, key activities of the Active Transportation and Safety section include:

• organize the local bicycle and pedestrian counts, held as part of the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project
• coordinate the Walk and Bike to School efforts in our region
• compile Rules of the Road information for pedestrians and bicyclists
• create regional high-crash location lists, including pedestrian and bicycle specific lists
• promote the concept of Complete Streets
• create the Columbus Metro Bike Map
• compile information on state, regional, and local bicycle and pedestrian plans
• host quarterly meetings of the Central Ohio Greenways and Trails Forum
