2016 Funding Cycle: The Transportation Review Advisory Council (TRAC) of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has accepted Major/New Project applications for their 2016 project selection round. Major/New Projects are transportation projects that have a total project cost greater than $12 million and “which add transportation capacityor reduce congestion, and are critical to the mobility, economic development, and quality of life of the citizens of Ohio.” This definition includes all new interchanges proposed for economic development or local access, any significant interchange modifications, bypasses, general purpose lane additions, intermodal facilities, major transit facilities, or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
As part of the TRAC project selection process, ODOT requests that metropolitan planning organizations provide local input by prioritizing the project applications that fall within the transportation planning organization (MPO) area. Five projects were submitted to TRAC that are within the MORPC MPO area. Four of these applications were requesting new funds, while one application --the Columbus Crossroads project-- was administrative in nature. On December 15, 2016, ODOT released the draft list of TRAC projects selected for the 2016 funding cycle. All four applications for improvement projects in Central Ohio were included on the list, meaning full or partial funding is being provided for them. In total, Central Ohio will receive $18.5 million in TRAC funds to improve segments of the transportation network that have statewide significance.
TRAC expects to approve the final projects list in January 2017.
Previous Funding Cycle: ODOT’s Transportation Review Advisory Council (TRAC) met on December 10, 2015 and approved the draft list of projects selected for the 2015 funding cycle. It was a very competitive year for TRAC projects, with $36 million available for eligible projects and a total of $634 million requested through 25 applications across the state, including four existing TRAC projects from Central Ohio requesting additional funding. The draft list of projects selected for funding does not include the additional funding request for the Central Ohio projects. TRAC accepted comments until January 10, 2016 and reconvened to approve the final project list on January 28, 2016.
