What do I do in case I have an emergency and have to get home early?
You need the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) voucher. This acts as a bit of insurance for all commuters registered with our program who utilize public transportation, carpools, vanpools, bike or walk.
Can I still use the GRH voucher if I walk, bike, or use COTA to get to work?
Yes you can! As long as you are registered with us, you may participate in the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program.
Will RideSolutions help me find a ride to my doctor's appointments?
Unfortunately, we don't provide transportation to medical or personal appointments. We assist in reducing the number of single occupant commuters driving to and from work. There are other programs available—check your county's websites.
Who are you?
RideSolutions is a program of the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission. We're a voluntary association of governments serving Ohio. Find out more at our website.
Carpool Commuters
How much does it cost to get registered and into a carpool?
Registering with our program and getting a matchlist are both free. The Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) voucher program is also free.
Do I need a car to participate in carpooling?
No, you could be in a carpool as a passenger rather than helping out with driving. However, we do encourage you to offer to pay for gas and parking.
How long is it before I can get into a carpool?
Unfortunately we are not an "on demand" service. We suggest that once you receive a matchlist, you call everyone and meet with them in a public place before setting off on your first day of commuting together. This usually takes a couple of days.
I have to drop my child off at day care before and after work. Can I still carpool?
If child care is a concern for you, we can match you up with commuters who live near your day care center. Some day care centers allow you to park in their lots for the day.
I'd rather carpool with people of the same gender as me. Can I do that?
Sure! We can send you a matchlist that meets your specific needs.
I ride with my spouse every day. Does that count as carpooling?
Absolutely! Don't forget to register for the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) voucher and a matchlist to add commuters to your carpool. Remember, everyone in the carpool must be registered to make use of the GRH.
Vanpool Commuters
What is the difference between vanpools and carpools?
Carpools use commuter vehicles, vanpools do not. Vanpools also seat more people.
How many people are needed to form a vanpool?
Between 7 and 15 commuters ride together in a vanpool.
Do I need a car to participate in vanpooling?
No, in fact joining a vanpool means a van is provided to your group.
Who drives the van?
One person in the vanpool group will be the designated driver. This person is a volunteer and rides for free. They also have limited personal use of the vehicle.
How much does it cost to join a vanpool?
The monthly fare varies from vanpool to vanpool. Contact us to find out more.
What does the monthly fare include?
The monthly fare includes gasoline costs, parking expenses, mileage, insurance, and maintenance costs. The volunteer driver rides for free and has limited personal use of the vehicle.
