Central Ohio Regional Transportation Safety Forum – It Takes a Village

Subheading here

The Central Ohio Transportation Safety Forum (Forum) is an annual event hosted by MORPC during Safe Driving Awareness Month in September. This Forum provides an opportunity for MORPC members and regional partners to discuss regional safety priorities and hear from experts about their experiences navigating the same challenges.

Theme: It Takes a Village

Join us for a conversation with Freddy Crollier, Director of City Planning, City of of Cleveland; Beth Osborne, Director of Transportation for America; and Dru Van Hengel, Senior Principal with Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates about the trends we’re seeing still today and what we can do to change them. We’ll discuss the various challenges that local agencies face, from the specific safety issues to the institutional and cultural barriers that stand in the way. These experts will share their experiences with navigating those challenges and provide a unique perspective on efforts underway throughout the USA.

After the keynote panel, participants will have the opportunity to join one of two breakout sessions to discuss key safety challenges in our region and share success stories with peer agencies:

Active Transportation Safety In Ohio, people walking and biking represent about 14 percent of all traffic deaths, despite making up just 2.6% of trips to work. Most importantly, not everyone is impacted equally. Our most at-need and disadvantaged populations experience a disproportionate amount of the severe pedestrian and bicycle crashes. This break-out session will focus on the latest data and what communities are doing to mitigate these crash types.

Addressing Serious Crash Types Throughout Central Ohio between 2013 and 2017, five crash types accounted for nearly 70 percent of fatalities and serious injuries: fixed object crashes, rear-end crashes, angle crashes, left turn crashes, and head on crashes. This break-out session will focus on the latest data and what communities are doing to mitigate these crash types.
