Garrison brings more than two decades of expertise to lead MORPC’s technology initiatives
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has announced the appointment of Matika Garrison as its new strategic director of technology. Garrison brings more than 25 years of leadership in information technology, leading highly functional teams in all aspects of information technology, including database administration, application administration, and endpoint management services.
Garrison joins MORPC from the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), where she held a variety of leadership roles since 2002 involving the planning, development and implementation of major IT projects that drove organizational change, and the introduction of new technology standards.
“We are pleased to welcome Matika to our leadership team,” said Wiliam Murdock, executive director of MORPC. “Her extensive knowledge, innovative mindset and leadership will be instrumental in advancing our technology initiatives forward and keeping us at the forefront of innovation."
During her tenure at OPERS, Matika held various leadership positions, including IT management and database administration roles, gaining valuable expertise in budgeting practices, project management, software deployment and communications.
“I am honored to join MORPC and plan to formalize IT programs and infrastructure strategies that ensure security compliance across applications and departments. I plan to partner with each organizational team to advance key priorities, while ensuring their IT needs are being met now and for future development in our ever-changing technology landscape.”
Garrison holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Frankin University and is a Certified Project Manager Professional (PMP). She is also an advocate for women in technology and actively mentors participants in Tech Women of Color through the New Directions Career Center.
As a nine-year breast cancer survivor, Garrison volunteers with The Ohio State University’s Turning the Page on Breast Cancer initiative, which offers services and education about cancer prevention and screening options, working to lower mortality rates, particularly among minority communities.
