More Than $30 Million Available for Public Works Projects in Franklin County

Projects to include roads, bridges, culverts, water supply, wastewater & solid waste systems.

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission is now accepting applications for financial assistance from local communities to maintain and improve their basic infrastructure systems.

The Ohio Public Works Commission has allocated more than $30 million for state fiscal year 2024 in loans and grants for local infrastructure projects in District 3/Franklin County through the State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP) and the Local Transportation Improvement Program (LTIP).

Eligible projects include improvements to roads, bridges, culverts, water supply systems, wastewater systems, storm water collection systems and solid waste disposal facilities. The Public Works Integrating Committee for District 3 will recommend funding awards for projects that are scheduled to begin construction between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024.

“We’re excited to see important infrastructure improvements move forward through this funding,” said Franklin County Engineer Cornell R. Robertson, chair of the OPWC District 3 Integrating Committee. “Whether the funding goes toward transportation, water supply or wastewater projects, we will ensure that it is put to good use and beneficial to local residents.”

Counties, cities, villages, townships, and special infrastructure districts located in Franklin County that are interested in applying for funding can contact Nathaniel Vogt, MORPC infrastructure development manager, for assistance at 614.233.4183 or nvogt@morpc.org. Completed applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022, for all applicants in District 3.

“We look forward to helping local agencies maintain and improve their infrastructure, and we are hopeful that Ohio will continue to fund these programs to support local infrastructure projects,” said Nathaniel Vogt, Infrastructure Development Manager, MORPC.

MORPC provides administrative support to the Public Works Integrating Committee for District 3, including processing and reviewing grant and loan requests from local governments. After evaluating and scoring the projects, the committee will create a prioritized list of projects that will be submitted to the Ohio Public Works Commission. Final project approval is given by the Ohio Public Works Commission.
