The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) has released a proposed list of new transportation projects to receive more than $52 million in federal funds from state fiscal years (SFYs) 2026 to 2031. MORPC is seeking public feedback on the proposed projects through Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.

“MORPC received approximately $160 million in funding requests for new transportation projects from across the region. The Attributable Funding Committee worked collaboratively to identify the projects with the greatest regional impact for these limited resources.”

The following 7 projects are proposed for a new funding commitment:

  • East Broad Capital Trail, Multi-Use Path – $9,328,863
  • Trabue Road at Walcutt Road, Intersection Improvements – $7,382,832
  • The Emerald Connector, New Bridge over I-270 – $4,500,000
  • Southwest Regional Medical and Innovation Gateway Overpass, New Bridge over I-71 – $2,625,000
  • Cooke Road, Phase 2 (Glenmawr Avenue to Karl Road), Reconstruction – $9,155,409
  • East Main Street Bus Rapid Transit – $14,400,000
  • Big Walnut Trail- Cherrybottom Park to Morse Road- $4,730,373

Every two years, MORPC solicits projects for federal transportation funding in its transportation planning area, which includes Franklin and Delaware counties; Bloom and Violet townships in Fairfield County; New Albany, Pataskala, and Etna Township in Licking County; and Jerome Township in Union County. Eligible improvements include highways, public transit, bikeways, pedestrian facilities, bridges, and traffic signal upgrades.

In addition to the seven new projects, MORPC’s Attributable Funding Committee is proposing continued funding for 41 previously committed projects and programs, totaling more than $340 million in future funding commitments.

Parag Agrawal, MORPC’s chief mobility and infrastructure officer, and senior director of programming, highlighted the importance of public engagement in shaping the future of transportation in Central Ohio.

“These projects represent vital steps toward building a more connected, sustainable, and accessible transportation network. Public input ensures that these investments meet the needs of the diverse communities we serve.”

MORPC will consider final approval of the funding commitments on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Once approved, these commitments will be incorporated into the region’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Funding commitments for SFYs before 2030 will be included in the SFY 2026-2029 TIP, which lists federal, state, and locally funded projects scheduled for implementation or development within a four-year period.
