Matt Bruning

Matt Bruning serves as the press secretary at the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). Matt has a robust background in communications, having spent two decades in radio broadcasting before joining ODOT. His career in radio included roles in news reporting and hosting, where he developed a knack for delivering clear and compelling information to listeners.
At ODOT, Matt leverages his extensive communication experience to effectively engage with the public and media alike. He plays a vital role in disseminating information about transportation projects, policies, and initiatives across Ohio, ensuring transparency and public awareness.
Originally from Indianapolis, Matt moved to Ohio and now resides in Chillicothe with his wife and three children.
Kelly Garrett, Ph.D.
Professor & Director of the School of Communication
The Ohio State University
Dr. Kelly Garrett is a Professor and Director of the School of Communication at the Ohio State University. His research examines how media consumption and digital communication platforms influence individuals’ political attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. This includes work on misinformation, social media, and selective exposure. In this work, Dr. Garrett frequently collaborate with experts from diverse fields including political science, psychology, information, and computer science. He has received over $2M in research support, with funding from the National Science Foundation, Social Science Research Council, and Meta. His work has been published in a number of outlets, including Science Advances, the Journal of Communication, the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Political Behavior, and JAMA Network Open among others.

Christopher Hearn

Born and raised in Columbus, OH, Christopher Hearn has more than 5 years of experience leading special projects across industries, including retail, entertainment, non-profit, and tech. In addition, he brings a wealth of knowledge from his personal endeavors.
He has delivered a TEDx speech, as well as the 2018 NYU commencement address at Yankee stadium. With a heart for community building, artistic expression, and empowering diverse identities, Christopher brings all of these unique perspectives into each initiative he leads as the current Account Director at Canvaas Consulting.
